Descriptions
The newest model in the LCR-Reader line of handheld LCR- and ESR-meters is the LCR-Reader-MP; this model features a basic accuracy of 0.1%, more test modes and 100 kHz test frequency for a 0.01 pF resolution for capacitance and 1 nH for inductance measurements.
The LCR-Reader-MP has more features than any other available tweezer-meter, including oscilloscope mode, pulse counting, AC/DC voltage/current measurements, signal generation, etc.
When using oscilloscope mode, the device is able to analyze wave-forms with frequencies up to 100 kHz on active circuit boards. The device can also be used with LCR-Reader Kelvin Probe Connector to check wave forms at various nodes on PCBs.
The device is especially useful for measuring very large capacitances up to 600 mF. Electrolyctic capacitors are measured at 120 Hertz with ESR measured at 100 kHz according to regular electrolytic capacitor test conditions. The test frequency is reduced to 25 Hertz when using the ‘Large Capacitance’ mode, allowing to evaluate very large capacitances with reasonable accuracy. The LCR-Reader-MP offers a wide range of test frequencies for optimal test conditions. The frequencies are 25, 100, 120 Hz, 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100 kHz.
Some of the downsides to the device is a high test signal source resistance of 1 kOhm and a maximum test signal level of 0.65 Vrms. This test signal level may not be enough for reliable measurements of some ceramic capacitors; this can lead to lower than actual capacitance values.
The device is also larger than LCR-Reader and the newer models of Smart Tweezers. The LCR-Reader-MP weighs 2 oz., twice that of the other models. The larger size allows for a larger display for better readability. The device is controlled using a jog-wheel that scrolls through the extensive menus. It is powered by an Li-Ion battery with micro-USB charging.
