Descriptions

The Konica Minolta CS-2000 Plus is a laboratory-grade spectroradiometer designed for testing the spot luminance, contrast, white point and chromaticity of displays. Being a spectroradiometer rather than a more traditional tristimulus colorimeter helps to ensure that the CS-2000 Plus gives more accurate readings with any type of display technology, including LCD, LED and OLED. Luminance levels as low as 0.003 cd/m2 can be measured with the CS-2000 Plus; for an even greater sensitivity of 0.0001 cd/m2, consider the alternative CS-3000 model.

The CS-2000 Plus is designed with single lens reflex (SLR) viewing optics that allows the operator to conveniently view the display or light source through the eyepiece and then focus on the target object for measurement. The CS-2000 Plus features three, selectable, internal apertures that provide a measurement field-of-view of 1.0, 0.2 and 0.1°. These correspond to minimum measurement spot sizes of 5.0, 1.0 and 0.5mm at a working distance of 350mm. An accessory close-up lens is available which further reduces the minimum measurement spot size down to 0.1mm diameter.

With the CS-2000 Plus, you can measure the visible light spectrum (380-780nm), the luminance (cd/m2), the CIE XYZ tristimulus values, the display white point (CCT in Kelvin), the CIE chromaticity (xy or u’v’), and the dominant wavelength and spectral purity.

Dynamic Range & Accuracy

The CS-2000 Plus is suitable for measuring the performance of many of today’s display devices. Depending upon the internal aperture selected, luminance measurements can be made from 0.003 up to 500,000 cd/m2. This allows the CS-2000 Plus to faithfully report luminance from the black-state of an OLED panel, right up to the bare LED backlight of an LCD display. Being a spectroradiometer, the CS-2000 Plus provides both luminance and colour values with low uncertainties, with a luminance accuracy of ±2% (CIE reference illuminant A, 1° aperture, ≥ 0.05 cd/m2). Over and above the previous CS-2000 model, an intelligent dark function uses correction information from a sensor unit to correct for any variation in dark current, enabling faster measurement and preserving high accuracy without the need for dark value measurement. For even lower light levels, consider instead the Konica Minolta CS-3000 spectroradiometer.

Measurement Spot Size

Luminance meters are often referred to as “spot photometers” due to the fact that the measurement of luminance is made from a defined spot or area on a light source or display. When making luminance measurements it is vital that the measurement spot (as denoted by the central black spot viewed through the eyepiece) is located well within the target area on the object. If the measurement spot only just fits within the lit area, or overlaps any of the surrounding unlit area, the resultant luminance measurement will be erroneous, possibly to a significant degree.

The CS-2000’s selectable field-of-view (1.0, 0.2 and 0.1°) correspond to minimum measurement spot sizes of 5.0, 1.0 and 0.5mm at a working distance of 350mm. An accessory close-up lens is available which reduce the minimum measurement spot size down to 0.1mm diameter.

Other Important Information

The CS-2000 Plus is intended for laboratory use and is powered from an AC mains power supply. It can measure luminance from areas as small as 0.1mm diameter. We recommend that you purchase a sturdy tripod with a 3-axis adjustable tripod head – both of which are available from Pro-Lite. Attaching the optional cosine diffuser adapter to the input of the CS-2000 Plus provides for illuminance measurements (units of lux). The CS-2000 Plus is fitted with USB 2.0 and RS-232 interfaces and PC data management software CS-S30 is included as standard. This allows for remote control of the CS-2000 Plus, and for logging of the measurement data and further analysis in Excel.
